Microsoft has hit the brakes on its latest Windows 11 Insider Preview release after users reported recently-added features vanishing from their systems, prompting an emergency fix rollout and temporary suspension of new builds.
The issue affects Windows Insiders in both Dev and Beta Channels who enabled the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle—ironically, the very feature designed to give early access to cutting-edge functionality.
Users who opted in to receive features first found themselves losing capabilities that Microsoft had only just rolled out, creating a frustrating paradox for the program's most enthusiastic testers.
Microsoft acknowledged the bug and deployed a "Windows Configuration Update" specifically designed to restore the missing features. The company updated its announcement for Build 26220.6760 (KB5065793) with a prominent warning and temporarily paused new flight distributions while engineers work to resolve the underlying cause.
The affected build was supposed to introduce several notable improvements, including a built-in network speed test accessible from the taskbar, enhanced Windows Search for Copilot+ PCs, and new StorageProvider APIs for cloud integration in File Explorer. Instead, it became a cautionary tale about the inherent risks of early-adoption programs.
What Insiders Should Do Now: If you've experienced disappearing features, check Windows Update immediately for the remedial "Windows Configuration Update." The fix is being distributed automatically to affected systems. Microsoft recommends keeping the early access toggle enabled, as the configuration update should prevent future occurrences.
