Googlebooks are officially here, and you can pre-order one right now. Google’s new line of premium laptops launched on September 21, 2026 with five models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, starting at $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14 and topping out at $1,299 for the ASUS Googlebook 14 and HP Googlebook 14. They hit US shelves on October 4, 2026, and buyers in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia get them a day later.
So what makes a Googlebook different from a regular laptop? The software, mostly. Every Googlebook runs Googlebook OS, an Android-based operating system Google built under the codename AluminiumOS, with up to 10 years of updates. All five launch models also share 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, a touchscreen, an Intel Core Ultra or Snapdragon X Elite chip and a free year of Google AI Pro. If you own an Android phone, you can even run its apps and browse its files right on the laptop.
Googlebook Price: What Every Model Costs
If you want the cheapest Googlebook, the Acer Googlebook 14 is it at $899. From there, you’re looking at $1,099 for the Lenovo Googlebook 15, $1,199 for the Dell XPS Googlebook and $1,299 for either the ASUS or HP model. There’s only one US configuration per laptop for now, and each one gets 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Canadian prices start at CA$1,299 for the Acer and climb to CA$1,799 for the ASUS, HP, and Lenovo, so the Lenovo loses a lot of its value appeal north of the border. Google hasn’t announced Googlebook pricing for India yet.

Which Googlebook Should You Buy?
There’s no single best Googlebook. The right pick depends on whether you care most about price, portability, screen size or battery life. Here’s how the five stack up.
- Acer Googlebook 14 ($899): best value. The only 2-in-1 in the lineup folds into a tablet, pairs a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen with the joint-fastest 49 TOPS NPU, and costs $400 less than the ASUS and HP.
- Lenovo Googlebook 15 ($1,099): best for screen space. Its 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED is the biggest display here and it adds face unlock. The trade-offs are the heaviest body (2.84 lb) and the shortest battery rating (13 hours).
- Dell XPS Googlebook ($1,199): best for travel. At 13.4 inches, 2.2 lb and 12.7 mm thick with an 18-hour battery rating, it is the most compact Googlebook. It is also the only one with an LCD rather than OLED screen.
- ASUS Googlebook 14 ($1,299): lightest 14-inch model. It weighs 2.2 lb, uses a 2.8K OLED panel and is the only Googlebook with an Intel Core Ultra 7.
- HP Googlebook 14 ($1,299): best battery life. Rated for up to 19 hours, it adds face unlock to a 14-inch 2.8K OLED design, at 2.74 lb.
What OS Does Googlebook Run?
Googlebooks run Googlebook OS. It’s built on Android, and if you followed the leaks, you’ll know it as Aluminium OS (or ALOS), the codename Google used during development. Google has confirmed that name was never going to stick. Think of Googlebook OS as Android rebuilt for a laptop: you get a proper desktop with an app dock, resizable windows and the full Chrome browser, and Android apps run natively instead of through the compatibility layer Chromebooks rely on.
If you use a Pixel phone, you’ll feel right at home. In 9to5Google’s hands-on, the Settings app is the same one you’d find on a Pixel, the app drawer is basically the Pixel Launcher, you can drop widgets on the desktop, and Quick Settings and notifications live in the top-right corner, just like on Android.
What comes with Googlebook OS
- Android apps from the Google Play Store, running natively.
- Full Chrome, including extensions and vertical tabs.
- Google’s web apps such as Gmail and Calendar, packaged through the Play Store so they support home-screen widgets.
- On-device AI through Gemini Nano, which powers Magic Pointer, Rambler, Create My Widget and searchable screenshots.
- A full Linux terminal for developers, able to run tools such as Claude Code and Antigravity CLI, plus Google Antigravity preinstalled for building apps.
- Microsoft 365 through the Microsoft 365 app for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook files.
- PC games such as Counter-Strike 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 via NVIDIA GeForce NOW, alongside Play Store games.
How Googlebook OS updates work
Here’s the part that should reassure anyone burned by slow Android updates: Google, not Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP or Lenovo, pushes Googlebook OS updates, and every Googlebook gets feature drops and updates for up to 10 years. Big releases arrive quarterly alongside Android’s platform releases, security patches can land in between, and everything installs in the background. Manufacturers can preload apps, but they can’t reskin the interface, so a Googlebook works the same no matter whose logo is on the lid.
Googlebook vs Chromebook: What’s the Difference?
No, Googlebook isn’t replacing the Chromebook. Chromebooks will keep running ChromeOS as Google’s simple, fast everyday laptops. Googlebook is a new flagship tier on top: built on Android, designed around Gemini and made to work hand in hand with your Android phone.

Gemini on Googlebook: Magic Pointer, Rambler and Create My Widget
Magic Pointer
Wiggle the cursor and Gemini appears exactly where you are working. Magic Pointer understands the text, images and context under it, so you can highlight a training plan on a web page and have Gemini schedule the runs in Google Calendar, hover over a suspicious email to check whether it is spam, or select a few images and combine them into one. It stays off until you summon it.
Rambler
Rambler is dictation that cleans up after you. Talk freely and it strips out filler words and false starts, organizes action items into bullet points and copes with switching languages mid-sentence. It opens from the new Quick Insert key, which replaces Caps Lock on Googlebook keyboards.
Create My Widget
Describe a widget and Googlebook builds it: a live score tracker for your team, a dashboard for an upcoming trip or a countdown to a family holiday, with no coding required. Magic Pointer and Create My Widget need an internet connection and are available to users aged 18 and over.
Gemini Live and Gemini Spark
Gemini Live, task automations and on-screen suggestions work out of the box. Gemini Spark keeps processing long requests in the background, even after you close the lid.
How Googlebook Works With Your Android Phone
- Cast My Apps opens your phone’s apps in a window on the laptop, without installing them on the Googlebook.
- Quick Access shows your phone’s files and photos in Files by Google as if they were stored on the laptop.
- Task continuity lets you start something on your phone and finish it on the Googlebook.
Cast My Apps and Quick Access require a phone running Android 17 or later. Setup ends with scanning a QR code on your phone, which brings over photos and Google Drive folders. Google has not announced any iPhone integration.
Googlebook Hardware Requirements
Google isn’t letting just any laptop wear the Googlebook badge. Every model needs at least 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and 14 hours of battery life, as Android Headlines reported, along with premium materials like aluminum, magnesium alloy or carbon fiber.
- Chips: Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Snapdragon X Elite at launch, with NPUs (the processors that run on-device AI) rated above 45 TOPS. MediaTek is also a Googlebook partner, but no MediaTek model is in the launch lineup.
- Memory: 16GB as standard, with 32GB on some models.
- Displays: touchscreens of up to 2.8K resolution, bright enough for direct sunlight.
- Keyboard and trackpad: backlit keyboards and large haptic glass trackpads.
- Audio: up to six speakers with Dolby Atmos and noise-cancelling microphones.
- Glowbar: a light strip on the lid that animates at startup and sweeps to show battery level. It first appeared on the 2013 Chromebook Pixel, and Google is opening it to developers for custom animations.
Googlebook vs Copilot+ PC
How does that compare with Windows? Googlebook’s minimums match Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC standard for RAM and storage, then go a step further with a battery-life requirement that Copilot+ PCs don’t have.

Googlebook Release Date and Where to Buy
Pre-orders opened at 9 a.m. ET on September 21, 2026, through the Google Store, Best Buy, and other retailers. Googlebooks go on sale in the US on October 4, 2026 and in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5. In the US, the Acer, Dell and Lenovo models are sold at both Best Buy and the Google Store, while the ASUS and HP models are Best Buy only. Canadian buyers can also order from Amazon, Staples, and Costco.

Is Googlebook Coming to India?
Not yet, unfortunately. India isn’t one of the seven launch countries, and Google hasn’t shared an Indian price or release date as of September 21, 2026. The free subscriptions bundled with Googlebook, including Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium, aren’t offered in India either. We’ll update this guide as soon as that changes.
Free Extras With Every Googlebook
Google is sweetening the deal, too. Every Googlebook comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro, a $239.88 value at the regular $19.99 monthly price, which gets you 5TB of cloud storage and higher Gemini limits. You’ll need to be a new AI Pro subscriber and redeem it by March 31, 2027. On top of that, there’s a stack of free app trials.

Ireland is the odd one out: it is a Googlebook launch market but is not listed for the Google AI Pro offer.
What Google Still Has Not Clarified
- Battery life: Google quotes up to 16 hours of web browsing for the lineup, yet rates the Dell at 18 hours and the HP at 19.
- RAM options: Google says some models offer 32GB, but the US store lists only 16GB configurations so far.
- Storage: all US models ship with 512GB, while Canadian listings start at 256GB for four models.
- Pricing outside North America: UK, European, Australian and Indian prices were not published at launch.
