Roblox to Run in Browser With No Download by End of 2026

Roblox will let players open its games in Google Chrome without downloading or installing anything by the end of 2026, and will add offline solo play by mid-2027. The company announced both on 11 September 2026 at its 12th Roblox Developers Conference in San Jose. Games will launch from their Experience Details Page in the browser with “no app or install required”, Roblox said in its RDC newsroom post.

Both are per-game settings a creator switches on, not platform-wide changes. Roblox’s developer roadmap describes Play on the Web as a way to distribute an individual game on the web, and offline play as a solo mode enabled alongside that game’s live multiplayer version. Availability will vary game by game, and Chrome is the only browser Roblox has named for launch.

What Changes for Players

A Roblox game link shared in a YouTube description, an X post, a Discord message or an email will open and run in a Chrome tab on click. Roblox lead engineer Nick Tornow said at RDC that “someone can click it and drop right into the game”, PCGamesN reported from the conference.

Offline play covers single-player sessions. Roblox says creators can enable it over the next year and that early access arrives before the mid-2027 launch. The company pitched the feature for subways, flights and areas with weak coverage.

Roblox Browser and Offline Play: Confirmed Dates

What Roblox Has Not Said

Roblox has not named the browsers that follow Chrome, has not published hardware requirements for browser play, and has not confirmed ChromeOS or Linux support. It also has not said whether every published game will be eligible. Its RDC materials note that availability and features vary by age and region.

One other change lands in the same window for cheap Android hardware. Roblox is raising the minimum draw distance to 500 studs by late 2026, more than double the current 200, on devices running at quality level 1.
