Jio 5G and Airfiber Announced, Roll-out Begins in Diwali 2022

Jio 5G services have been announced. The initial rollout of Jio 5G will start from Diwali.

Reliance Jio announced its Jio 5G services during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022 event today.

India Billionaire Mukesh Ambani has finally made the announcement of the launch of Jio 5G services in the country. 

Additionally in the announcement, he noted that other operators deploying NonStand-Alone 5G. Jio will deploy the latest version of 5G called Stand Alone 5G which will be True 5G. To fulfill the True 5G, Jio acquired the largest 5G spectrum during the auction of the spectrum.  

3500 MHZ (mid-band frequency), 26 GHz (milli-meter wave band), and 700MHz (low band spectrum) - Only acquired by Jio

Jio working closely with all smartphone manufacturers to provide the True 5G network to all users.

Jio standalone 5G to be rolled out in selective cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata by Diwali. By December 2023, all the towns and cities including villages will have 5G services throughout the country.- says Mukesh Ambani. To make this project successful Reliance has committed ₹2 lakh crore investment for 5G.

With the announcement of the True 5G Service, Reliance also announced the following partnerships for 5G standalone services.

  • Meta-immersive technology and metaverse.
  • Google - to develop ultra-affordable 5G smartphones and Google cloud capabilities.
  • Microsoft - cloud-enabled business application.
  • Intel - cloud-scale data centers and cutting-edge applications.
  • Qualcomm - to develop 5G solutions for India.

The plans for Jio 5G have not been revealed as of now.

Furthermore, Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio also announced the launch of JioAirfiber, a wifi hotspot that will allow consumers to access fiber-like speeds at homes and offices. He said with the 5G services being rolled out in India, the current 800 million connected internet devices will double to 1.5 billion connected internet devices in just a year. 

Jio AirFiber is based on Jio True 5G technology, which is a wireless single-device solution with an ultra-high-speed internet connection. The same can also be used for cloud gaming, shopping, and live sports streaming.
