The UK-based software company "Canonical"  which is responsible for markets and manages Linux-based operating system Ubuntu has announced that it is shutting down Ubuntu One cloud services. From now onward user will not able to store file or buy music from Ubuntu One Cloud Service.

Canonical CEO Jane Silber wrote: “As of today, it will no longer be possible to purchase storage or music from the Ubuntu One store. The Ubuntu One file services will not be included in the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release, and the Ubuntu One apps in older versions of Ubuntu and in the Ubuntu, Google, and Apple stores will be updated appropriately. The current services will be unavailable from 1 June 2014; user content will remain available for download until 31 July, at which time it will be deleted.”

Silber, also mention that the closing the one cloud store was a tough decision. Now the company is mainly focusing in developing operating system for phones, tablets and desktops. Recently company have announced budget smart phone who have edge design and much like by users.

Earlier Ubuntu One is offering 5GB of cloud storage along with the online music streaming and a music store. As recently other cloud storage service providers like Google, Microsoft, Dropbox have lower its storage price with 25 GB to 50 GB of free storage on registration, makes the Ubuntu One to quite from this race. Ubuntu can't afford this much offer at low cost an hence decided to shutdown.

Silber wrote,
"if we offer a service, we want it to compete on a global scale, and for Ubuntu One to continue to do that would require more investment than we are willing to make."
User who already had a subscription will get back there money and moreover Silber says, source code of the service  will be released as an open source software.

  1. This was my first time moving to storage so I had no clue what I need to do, what unit size I need. I walked to this storage place and I observed how the staff on duty was interacting with existing customers and that in start made me feel confident about moving forward with my choice.
